Item The Five Anchors of Impact: Teaching in challenging times(Magna Publications, 2020) Trujillo-Jenks, Laura; Fredrickson, Rebecca R.Watching a rock being thrown into the water can be exciting as the ripples reach out, often in ways that are unexpected. Teaching has those same opportunities of rippling into the unexpected. Teaching and learning can be fun, exciting, and different for each person. There are numerous teachable moments that encourage deep thinking and a curriculum that inspires a thirst for more knowledge. Even when one student asks a question that throws you off your game, teaching and learning can still be fun, exciting, and different; these are the expected. It can also be scary, overwhelming, and difficult, especially when the unexpected is thrown your way. Nevertheless, the expected and the unexpected have an impact on what we do in the classroom.Item Teaching in challenging times: How can culturally relevant pedagogy assist teachers during COVID?(Texas Association of Teacher Educators, 2020) Trujillo-Jenks, Laura; Fredrickson, Rebecca R.; Dunlap, Karen; McMahan, SarahDuring challenging times, the teaching profession becomes the beacon of hope and enlightenment. As has been seen in the era of COVID-19, teachers have been appreciated and praised for providing teaching and learning experiences that promote success for students. Additionally, it has been demanded of them to provide more culturally relevant pedagogy (CRP) to ensure that all students are getting the most from the different forms of instruction that is provided during COVID-19 (i.e., virtual, blended, F2F with shields and masks). To ensure that pre-service teachers are prepared to deliver teaching and learning that includes CRP, targeted activities that include real-world opportunities are a must and should include simulated experiences, along with field experience, bridging, and professional development activities.Item Using the 5 Anchors of Impact in unpredictable times(Texas Council of Women School Executives (TCWSE), 2022) Trujillo-Jenks, Laura; Fredrickson, Rebecca R.The 5 Anchors of Impact are the right tools that can help educators understand how to navigate the challenges that may be thrown at them. Especially after the year of COVID-19-19 restrictions and the unpredictable weather, it is clear that the 5 Anchors can be used to guide educators on how to be successful during these uncertain times. All educators, and teachers especially, have been affected by the past year’s challenges, and the many changes that have come to education are most likely going to stick. This means that a whole new paradigm of what education will look like including skills, ideals, and pedagogy that have not been taught in preparation courses or professional development will be the new expectation. Having the 5 Anchors as the foundation for moving forward with this new paradigm is imperative.
