Smart Start: A School Readiness Program for Children with Unilateral Cerebral Palsy

Smart Start is an intensive therapeutic program created to address school readiness skills for children with cerebral palsy. Smart Start focuses on functional and cognitive domains as a therapeutic approach to provide interventions in areas of development that children with CP may be behind in secondary to their diagnosis. Goals of the capstone project include creating a manual for the program, conducting pre- and post- assessments for participants, provide caregivers with a descriptive analysis of the skills their child accomplished during the program, and to write/present scholarly work.

Using Video-Based Support to Improve Vocational Skills in Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disability at Bridges Training Foundation

A 6-week video-based support program was conducted at Bridges Training Foundation in Midlothian, Texas, to improve vocational skills among its clientele. Utilizing video-based support strategies such as video modeling and prompting is an effective EBP to establish, promote, restore, or maintain vocational skills in adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disability.

The Ties Between Mental Health and Refugee Children

My project focus is on middle-school aged refugee children and occupation-based mental health interventions, with an emphasis on cultural awareness, to provide a healthy outlet for emotional regulation and combat the risk of mental illness development in this population.

Vision for Success: Empowering Parents, Educators and Therapists for Academic Excellence in K-12 Students
(2024) Perez, Daniella
The mission of this doctoral capstone experience is to promote awareness and understanding of the crucial role of visual integrity, visual efficiency, and visual processing in the academic success of K-12 students. The aim is to provide a comprehensive resource that can be utilized by parents, teachers, school-based occupational therapists, and clinical occupational therapists. Through education and guidance, this project seeks to empower these stakeholders to support students in optimizing their visual abilities for enhanced learning experiences in the classroom.

Occupational Therapy's Role in Implementing Cognitive Adaptation Training Framework in the Denton County Crisis Residential Unit: Supporting Individuals, Service Providers, and Establishing a Mobile Support System

The capstone project focused on increasing service delivery through program development and implementation at Denton County's crisis residential unit, supporting service providers at the unit, and developing a mobile support backpack system utilizing the cognitive adaptation training framework for individuals to utilize upon discharge from the unit.
