School of Library and Information Studies - Rural libraries whose librarians have expertise in digital literacy and a deep understanding of unique communities can be an important part of efforts to improve the quality of life for residents. However, traditional library education does not include the development of students as future leaders of community growth. This presentation will describe efforts to build on prior research in the Appalachian region. The MLS/Community Informatics program extends traditional library roles by getting librarians out into their communities, working with community leaders and residents to facilitate needed and wanted change.en_US
