Progress in the designing of potentially active anticancer drugs depends on an understanding of the specific mechanisms governing the behavior of the current drugs with cellular targets and DNA, and identifying the drugs ligands, that are interacting with the DNA. In this presentation, we will show the results of a combination of Surfaceenhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) and High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) of four drugs, Cisplatin, Carboplatin, Oxaliplatin and Nedaplatin with various DNA sequences. Studies examining modifications in the DNA in the presence of each drug under various experimental conditions such as drug:DNA ratios, pH, temperatures, and incubation periods of DNA and drug will also be discussed. Overall, our results showed that Carboplatin is the least effective drug when binding to DNA, while Cisplatin and Oxaliplatin significantly modify DNA.
