The purpose of this investigation is to examine the relationship between total, abdominal, and hip fat mass and serum markers for CHD in pre and postmenopausal obese women. Participants included non-smoking, sedentary and obese premenopausal women (n = 19) and postmenopausal women (n = 13). Resting blood samples were previously collected and analyzed for lipid and lipoprotein cholesterol concentrations. Multiple regression analysis was used to determine relationships among regional fat mass and lipid and lipoproteins and MANOVA was used to assess differences in these variables between pre and postmenopausal women. Menopausal status had an effect on concentrations of lipid and lipoprotein-cholesterol and on total and regional fat mass. Total and regional fat mass were also found to have associations with lipid and lipoprotein-cholesterol concentrations.en_US
