In addition, the level of vitamin D supplementation required to increase serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] was assessed. Data was obtained via a retrospective chart review of GSD patients followed by the Department of Pediatrics Medical Genetics from the McGovern Medical School in Houston. GSD patients had significantly lower levels of serum 25(OH)D concentrations (p>0.000; CI 95%) compared to recommended levels. GSD patients were at increased risk of inadequate vitamin D status based on serum 25(OH)D levels with 48% deficient and 40% insufficient.
