The expressed needs of sexual and gender minority college students who have been sexually assaulted: A photovoice study

Each participant shared a unique story through photographs. While each story was special and distinctive, some the shared themes were woven throughout. Each participant brought with them an intersectional view of who they were when receiving support after sexual assault. There were many important threads in the stories the participants shared. There was much discussion on consent and how there is a lack of formal education on consent in the academic setting. Others spoke about the importance of contact with animals. Leonardo sought out the opportunity to volunteer at an animal sanctuary in order to have contact with animals, which he knew from previous experience would be healing. Others, like Eliza and Luna relied on the support of ESAs to provide a sense of security and recovery.
