Abstract

The purpose of this study was to document how Texas teachers are teaching critical literacy skills during the COVID-19 global pandemic and the resulting national educational crisis of the early 20s, both of which have powerfully constrained pedagogical practices and forced many teachers to teach outside their accustomed modalities. Through the collection of data from surveys, interviews, and lesson plans I discovered the quality and quantity of teachers focusing on critical literacy skills in their English classes during the 2020-2021 academic year and how teachers responded to the opportunities and threats generated by the COVID-19 pandemic and other major national events of the early 20s.
