Abstract
Based on an open-ended survey of 75 elementary teachers, it is concluded that regular education teachers are not prepared to cope with the challenge of utilizing effective classroom management skills for habitually disruptive students. The purpose of this project was to assist regular education teachers with behavior management strategies for handling tough kids in their classrooms. A resource guide utilizing best practices in behavior management strategies was developed. The guide consists of case-study scenarios depicting an example of each consistent behavior problem found in the regular classrooms with a minimum of two to three strategies for each scenario. The solutions were compiled from personal experiences in the classroom, successful outcomes utilized in the classrooms of the panel of experts, and suggestions derived from discipline models researched in depth (Canter, 1976; Curwin & Mendler, 1988; Dreikurs, 1968; Ginott, 1971; Glasser, 1986; Kounin, 1971; Redl & Wattenberg, 1959; and Skinner, 1971).
