Abstract
The purpose of this systematic review was to explore the relationship of music therapy and psychoeducation within a mental health setting. This study addressed the following research question: What role can music therapy play in psychoeducation within mental health settings? Twenty-five articles were selected based on inclusion criteria for this systematic review. The result indicated limited literature regarding the use of psychoeducation (PE) within the practice of music therapy. Six out of twenty-five articles included the term psychoeducation within their abstract with all other articles using similar terminology to define PE. The result revealed that board certified music therapists are mainly using music therapy with PE through songwriting and lyric analysis and with various theoretical approaches.
