dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this research was to expand on the knowledge of a well know organometallic system: copper phenanthroline complexes. Copper phenanthroline complexes have been widely studied and are currently being investigated for uses in catalysis, medicine, and solar energy applications. It was the goal of this research to synthesize well known useful complexes using new solventless synthesis methodology as well as to create new materials to study for potential application in these fields. This thesis includes 134 figures, 64 tables, and is 189 pages long. Eight compound have been synthesized and characterized through techniques such as X-ray crystallography, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, melting point, 1H-NMR, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), electronic absorption spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and photoluminescence spectroscopy. Analysis of the results are discussed and conclusions about potential applications are made. | |
