This phenomenological study, utilizing Husserl’s (1962) phenomenological approach, explored the lived experiences of women parenting through abuse. Semi-structured open-ended interview questions with prompts were used during face-to-face individual interviews of 20 mothers to understand how each mother parented both within and outside the home. Interviews were digitally recorded and analyzed carefully using Colaizzi’s (1978) method of analysis with the finding of an overarching theme of avoiding judgment. Data from this study may assist in increasing the awareness and further understanding of experiences and feelings of mothers, who parent during intimate partner violence. Recommendations for further research include possible intervention development to support the parenting relationship between a mother and her child(ren) to preserve the health and well-being of both.en_US
