The problem of this study was to determine the job satisfaction levels of American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) registered cytotechnologists in Texas. A mail survey was conducted using a computerized, randomly selected sample of 245 ASCP currently registered (1989) Texas cytotechnologists. The instrument used was the Job Satisfaction Survey, developed by Oliver, (1978). The response rate to the survey was 42.6%. The MANOVA analysis yielded no significant difference in job satisfaction between bench and supervisory cytotechnologists. However, both groups are not clearly satisfied with overall job satisfaction, and they are not satisfied with their rewards and recognition. The univariate F test was non-significant for Hypothesis 2, except for item 5. For item 5, supervisors expressed a higher level of satisfaction with the opportunitis for problem solving. The mean for item 5 for bench cytotechnologists was 3.40 and for supervisors 4 .26.en_US
