The demographic, physiologic characteristics and health promoting behaviors of exercise program participants and exercise program nonparticipants
The purpose of this descriptive, retrospective, nonexperimental survey was to describe the demographic, physiologic characteristics, and health-promoting behavior differences between exercise program participants and exercise program nonparticipants. The sample consisted of 4,091 corporate employees who completed the Health and Fitness Assessment Questionnaire. When program participants were compared to nonparticipants, the following characteristics were recorded. A higher percentage of program participants was found among the females of Asian or Indian descent, the less than 35-year-old group, the persons with a college level education, the professional and administrative persons, persons with a lower weight and lower triglyceride value (p ≤ .05).
