Perceptions of teacher performance in childbirth education classes

This study investigated differences in the perception of teacher performance between instructors (self-evaluation) and participants (group evaluat ion) in childbirth education classes at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, as measured by the Crowe Evaluation Scale. The scale assessed eight areas of teacher performance (personality, knowledge, media use, style, timeliness, demonstrations, organization, and handling of questions). A total of 20 physical therapist instructors, 242 parturients, and 230 coaches provided a sample of convenience. The instrument was administered by the investigator at the end of the fourth class of each six week childbirth education series. Descriptive statistics were used to arrive at frequency and percentage for demographics of parturients and coaches. Ah-test was used to analyze the data obtained from the 24 item scale. It was concluded that no significant difference was found in the perception of teacher performance among the three groups.
